Important Information About Ceramic Belfast Sinks
Ceramic Belfast sinks are hand-made from natural clay. Because of this, they are not perfectly uniform. Due to manufacturing tolerances of around 5%, sinks can sometimes be slightly taller or shorter. This is completely normal with ceramic products and should be planned for when fitting into a base cabinet.
Installation Solutions
There are two standard ways to achieve a correct fit:
- Adjust Cabinet Legs - Lower the adjustable legs of the sink base unit until the sink top is level with the tops of the surrounding cabinets.
- Machine a Rebate in the Worktop - The underside of the worktop above the sink can be machined with a shallow rebate. This allows the sink to sit correctly without fouling the underside of the worktop.
Note: In some cases, a combination of both methods may be used.
End Panels are always required - A Belfast sink installation should always include end panels to the left and the right of the unit. These panels help to minimise gaps created by the curved front edges of the sink and maintain the visual line of the doors. If the sink base unit is adjusted in height, the bottom edge of the doors may not align perfectly with those on adjacent units. With end panels in place, the vertical lines take focus, and any small difference in door height becomes unnoticeable.
